Founded by the Institute of Modern History, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in 1954, and displaying Guo Moruo’s calligraphy on its cover, Modern Historical Data is an academic journal specializing in publishing modern Chinese historical literature and data. Modern Historical Data was edited by the editorial group of Modern Historical Data at Chinese Academy of Sciences, and published quarterly by the Science Press. Each issue contained about 200,000 Chinese characters (though some issues had 300,000 to 500,000 Chinese characters). It stopped publication after 24 issues (No.1 to No. 24). After it resumed publication in 1962, it was published at irregular intervals by Zhonghua Book Co. In 1965, after 12 issues (No. 25 to No. 36), it stopped publication again.
